WOOD STOCK BRAND WHALING GUN WITH VESSEL'S NAME "SCH. ANTARCTIC" deep stamped into one side of the stock. Number 1 model with a 20" long octagonal/round barrel and 7/8" bore. Overall length 35 3/4". weighs 16 pounds. Front sight. At the rear of the trigger guard is an iron lanyard loop that still has a section of working lanyard line attached to it. Iron butt plate at the rear of the stock. Brass tipped ramrod with screw at opposite end. Includes a bomb lance that no longer has its rubber fins. Overall condition very good and probably just as it was when taken out of commission. The schooner Antarctic had a long career sailing out of Provincetown, Mass. Starbuck lists 17 Atlantic voyages between 1851-1876, most being quite productive. It's very, very rare to find a whale gun with AUTHENTIC vessel markings. From my personal collection.
