*182. PAIR OF 19TH CENTURY, POLYCHROME COLORED TEETH. One scene
depicting seated female and a young girl staring at at a cat that appears to have a
bird in its mouth. Both are wearing fancy dresses that are colored in shades of red
and green. Other tooth has seated female with two young children at her side. Their
outfits all nicely colored in red and green. Nice solid teeth measuring 6"l. x 2 3/4"w.
Condition fine having just typical fine but sound age cracks. Nice creamy age patina
throughout. The pair

*183. RARE TEMPLE HARPOON BY NEW BEDFORD MAKER. Overall length
34". Head with deep stamped letters "JD". Open cone that is forged integral to the
shaft. Condition very good. James Durfee Jr. was born
in New Bedford in 1803 and the 1836 city directory
lists him as a blacksmith and machinist. He was in
business on Water Street from 1849-52 but no date is given for his retirement or death. The Temple harpoon
was invented in 1848 by a black American named Lewis Temple who operated a blacksmith shop in New
Bedford until his death in 1854. A very scarce and desirable 19th century whaling iron.

*184. 19TH CENTURY CASED EBONY OCTANT. Length of reinforced brass index arm
13 1/2". Double peep sight with pivoting cover. Three movable shades, two horizon glass-
es and a backsight. Ivory scale, vernier, blank nameplate and note pad on reverse with
owner name "W. Redlon/Kennebunk/Maine". Ivory scale with logo of fouled anchor
flanked by initials "JA". Original stepped case with 19th century paint on surface.
Condition of everything good but "as found" with brass having deep patina throughout.
Has old typed note in box with some history on Redlon. Circa 1840-50.

*185. RARE U.S. NAVY CHELSEA PILOT HOUSE CLOCK with 11
jewel movement. 8 day. Brass case with hinged bezel and serial num-
ber("123168") stamped above Chelsea mark on reverse side. 8 1/2"d. silvered face marked
"U.S. NAVY". Lower portion with maker information "Chelsea Clock Co. Boston, U.S.A.".
Blued steel hour, minute and second hands. Overall diameter 10". Condition excellent.
This clock was delivered to the U.S. Navy on October 10, 1918.

*186. BRASS BARRELED BLUNDERBUSS circa 1810. 15 1/4"l. cannon style barrel
that is octagonal shaped at breech end. Deep stamped with barrel marks
and maker mark "R & W". Also decorated with a nice row of engraved
fleur-de-lys. Lock signed "Ryan & Watson". Fancy goose neck, flint lock
hammer. Brass furniture including butt plate, trigger guard with acorn
finial, ramrod sleeves and side plate. All brass decorated with extra
engraving. Stock with unusual checkering at rear of lock. Overall length 31". Condition excellent. Ryan and
Watson are listed as gunmakers in Birmingham from 1799-1820.

*187. SCRIMSHAW TOOTH carved one side with stbd view of large U.S. Naval
ship that is probably the Pennsylvania. Some red polychrome coloring in American
flag, pennant and below vessel's waterline. Reverse with 3/4 portrait of a female in
fancy 19th century attire. Nice size tooth measuring 6 1/2"l. x 2 3/4"w. Condition
fine. Great age color throughout. Circa 1850. Very nice piece of scrim.
