*141. UNIQUE BOOKENDS MADE FROM "OLD IRONSIDES". These not part of the
campaign of items offered during the 1927 rebuild of Constitution but likely were made
by someone who worked on the project. Each upright piece made from sections of sal-
vaged timber that were mounted on oak bases. Top of each cut on angle and neatly
inscribed with painted lettering "From the/U.S. Frigate Constitution/Launched
1797/Rebuilt 1927". Overall height 7 1/2". Base width 5 3/8". Condition excellent with
both having their original varnish finish.

*142. VERY UNUSUAL RELIC BOX WITH ENGRAVED SILVER PLAQUES...MADE
FROM CONSTITUTION AND BEN FRANKLIN"S HOME. Dovetailed oak alms box with
sliding lid and turned wood handle. Silver plaque beautifully engraved
"Handle/from the Ship/Constitution". Three other silver plaques engraved
as follows: "Wood/fromthe House in which/Dr Franklin/was born/Built
1680"; "Missionary Box/S.S. Mis. Society/M.E. Church"; "Presented
by/Geo. C. Crawford/and/Jas. H. Tibbetts". Overall length 14". Condition
very good noting two small bits of wood lost on box. This box likely made
around 1872 when Constitution underwent a rebuilding and when Franklin's birth home in Boston was
destroyed by fire. Very interesting item.

*143. RELIC MADE FROM TWO FAMOUS U.S. NAVY SHIPS. Walking stick with tapered wood shaft that
has a silver band at top with engraved inscription "From Stern Post of U.S.S.
Kearsarge". Fitted with nicely turned wood knob with silver inlay in top that
is engraved with information "From/U.S. Frigate/Constitution". End of shaft
fitted with nice big protective tip. Overall length 36". Condition excellent.

*144. MODEL NAVAL CANNON MADE FROM THE WOOD OF FOUR FAMOUS
AMERICAN VESSELS. Affixed to the side of the naval style carriage is beautifully
engraved silver plaque with inscription "Gun. Rebel Ram Merrimac/Sides. Frigate
Congress/Wheels. `Dear Old Hartford'/Axletrees & c. Frigate United States". Overall
length 6". Condition very good.

*145. RELIC OF BATTLESHIP MAINE. Beautifully made item in
form of obelisk shaped monument. Heavy solid bronze construction with each of four sides
inscribed as follows: "Relic of the Maine"; "Destroyed Feb. 15 1898"; "In
Scared/Remembrance/to/the dead/of the Maine"; "266 killed". Overall height 4 1/2". Base 2 1/2"
x 2 1/2". Condition excellent. Has acquired a nice mustard colored patina. Rare item.

*146. LARGE RELIC MADE FROM WOOD AND METAL TAKEN FROM NELSON'S H.M.S.
VICTORY. Made to look like the Trafalgar Monument that stands at
Southsea. Sitting on top of the hinged lid is a large wood and copper
anchor that has hand painted gilt lettering applied to both sides of
stock. Inscription reads "Victory's Anchor Oct 21 1805". The underside of lid has
splendid, late 19th century, photo of Victory anchored at Portsmouth Harbor with all
her flags flying. Box itself of splayed construction having four glass panels with follow-
ing inscriptions: "Near this memorial on the 14th September, 1805 Admiral Lord
Nelson embarked for the last time, being killed on the following 21st October at the
victorious Battle of Trafalgar"; "The Battle of Trafalgar/The British Fleet consisted of 27
sail of the line, that of the allies of France & Spain 33, of these 19 were taken or destroyed by Lord Nelson";
"Ready Aye Ready"; "England Expects That Every Man Will Do His Duty". On the base is also gilt lettered
inscription "Oak & Copper from the `VICTORY". 9 1/2"l. x 7 1/4"w. x 8" high. Condition very fine.

*147. RELIC SNUFF BOX MADE FROM NELSON'S "VICTORY". 3 1/2" diameter oak
box with removable, friction fitting lid. Inset into top is engraved silver disc with
inscription "H.M.S. VICTORY/21st Octr./1805". The date commemorates Lord Nelson's
historic victory at Trafalgar where the British Navy defeated the combined fleets of
Spain and France. Condition Excellent. The silver disc is made from an 1821 dated half
crown coin that was smoothed one side for engraving.
