*101. SPANISH AMERICAN WAR ERA FOLDING NAVY KNIFE. Deep stamped into 4"l, square tipped,
blade "U.S. NAVY". Also has maker's mark "Alfred
Williams/Sheffield England". Length open 8". Stag antler
handles and copper bail for attaching a lanyard. Condition
very good with full blade and excellent age color on slab
handles. One small, triangular shaped, piece of antler missing from edge on one side.

*102. NAVY KNIFE BY AMERICAN MAKER. 3 1/2", square tipped blade deeply etched "NAVY KNIFE". Also
stamped with maker name "Russell & Co/Green
River/Works". Overall length 7 1/2" plus brass lanyard bail.
Stag slab handles with beautiful deep patina. Also has
bored lanyard hole. Excellent condition with nice full blade.
Hard to find navy knives by this maker. Circa 1870.

maker name "Alexander Sheffield". Stag slab handles. Bored
hole for lanyard. Large size measuring 8 3/4"l. when open.
Condition excellent with just small area of blade showing
some sharpening. These Civil War era examples quite desir-
able and very hard to find.

and with maker mark "George/Wostenholms/IXL Cutlery".

Civil War era example.

*105. EXTREMELY RARE AND DESIRABLE TYPE NAVY KNIFE BY AMERICAN MAKER. Square tipped,
3 3/4" blade etched "U.S. NAVY". Also stamped with maker
name "Miller Bros". Bone slab handles gouged and colored
to resemble stag. Unique feature of these Miller Bros
knives is that handle
slabs are held in place by three small screws on each side. The rare
and desirable feature of this knife is how the blade opens by pressing
side lever while holding in downward direction so force of gravity low-
ers blade into open position. Length when open 8 1/2" plus brass lanyard bail. Condition excellent having
nice full blade with totally legible lettering. Miller Brothers started business in Connecticut in 1863 moving
around a bit until settling in a large space in Meriden where they flourished for decades. A very, very hard
navy knife to find.(also illustrated in closed position)

*106. U.S. NAVY MARKED SAVAGE REVOLVER. 36 cal. Marked on frame strap above cylinder "SAVAGE
R.F.A. CO. Middletown, CT./H.S. NORTH PATENTED JUNE 17,
1856/JANUARY 18, 1859, MAY 15, 1860". Just in front of frame, on
top of 7" octagonal barrel, is a stamped anchor. Bottom of butt strap
stamped "U.S.N." Cylinder with inspection markings "P/J.R.G."(ini-
tials of Navy Inspector, Captain James R. Goldsborough). Two piece
walnut grips. Overall length 14 1/2".Condition excellent with nice
amounts of original blue on underside of barrel and loading mecha-
nism. Some casehardening on frame. This exact gun illustrated and discussed pgs. 55-59 in Frederick
Winter's "U.S. Naval Handguns". Also mentions that it was once part of famous Locke Collection. The Navy
purchased a total of 1100 of these Savage revolvers for use during the Civil War. Very rare to find in this type
condition with Navy markings.
