*70. EXTREMELY RARE U.S. NAVAL SAILOR'S WOOL CAP WITH HAND EMBROI -
DERED TOP. Has embroidered hat band with vessel name "U.S.S. PHILADELPHIA".
Diameter of top 10". Completely decorated with hand embroidery using threads of sev-
eral different colors. Has outer border of double stars within a large multi-pointed star.
Center with a handsome burst of colorful stars within stitched borders. Condition very
fine. Am quite sure this would have been made by or for a sailor who served aboard the
Philadelphia that was launched in 1889. Exact piece illustrated page 108 in Welles
Henderson's book "Jack Tar". Rare and desirable piece of nautical Americana.  2450.00

NAUTICAL SCENES. 14 different envelopes in all. All measure
approximately 3"w. x 5 1/2"l. Four printed in full polychrome, five
in b&w and five in blue ink. Several depict CW sailors with
American flags and others mostly ships. Condition of all excel-
lent. Wonderful Civil War Americana. The grouping

*72. 19TH CENTURY SCRIMSHAW CANE WITH CLENCHED FIST HANDLE. Tapered whalebone shaft fit-
ted with whale ivory knob that is nicely carved in form of clas-
sic clenched fist. Between where handle and and shaft meet
there are 8 wood and whale ivory washers. Overall length 33
3/4". Condition excellent.
