*175. RARE PAIR OF SCRIMSHAW CUPS each made from a hollowed out
Sperm Whale tooth. Each cup 2 1/2" wide x 4" tall plus their turned wood
bases. Overall height 5 3/4". Both cups nicely shaped at bottom and with scal-
lop carving along top edges. Both scrimshaw carved all around with floral
motifs and borders. Condition very good noting that one cup has an age crack
along one side. Both with nice age patina. Circa 1850. Interesting scrimshaw
form that is rarely seen. The pair

*178. UNUSUAL PAIR OF AMERICAN SHIP LANTERNS. Circa 1890. Port and star-
board set with original red and green fluted glass lenses. Each with maker plaque
"Manufactured/by/ RUSSELL & WATSON/145 Main St./BUFFALO, N.Y.". Heavy metal
construction with both retaining their original red and green paint that also is
decorated with gold striping on front and on doors that access the oil lanterns.
5 1/2" diameter x 10" high plus carrying handle. Condition excellent and complete.
Paint with expected wear but just the way you like to find it. The pair

*179. WHALE IVORY AND EBONY PIE CRIMPER with 2" diameter serrated wheel.
Portion of handle that holds wheel interest-
ingly shaped and where it joins the bag shaped ebony section there is
a brass spacer. Towards end the ebony is inset both sides with whale
ivory stars. Overall length 8". Condition fine. Desirable age color
throughout. Circa 1850-60.

*180. POLYCHROME SCRIMSHAW TOOTH carved both sides with ship
scenes. Very much appears to be the work of artisan referred to as
naval engagement engraver. One side with nice scene depicting ship
sailing along coastline with land and lighthouse in background. In
lower right corner are tiny ini-
tials "IWY". Reverse with inter-
esting shipwreck scene show-
ing stern view of dismasted ship
floundering in heavy seas. Attached to stern is line holding three
lifeboats with men on board. Along bottom edge is stem with leaves
and thistle flowers. Everything nicely colored in red, blue, green and
black. Length 7 1/2" x 2 3/4" wide. Condition excellent. Nice even age color throughout. A rather interesting
19th century tooth.

*181. AMERICAN SHIP IN A BOTTLE. Rectangular shaped bottle
measuring 10" long. Has large four masted barque being escorted by a
tugboat. Both vessels flying American flags. Has initials "CP" on under-
side. Cork has a pin-wheel design carved into the end. Condition excel-
lent. Circa 1900. Nice looking.
