*174. FINE SCRIMSHAW CARVED TOOTH. Engraved one side with
3/4 portrait of bearded man in princely costume and elaborate turban
decorated with plume and crescent moon. In his right hand he holds curved oriental
sword known as scimitar and in his belt an ancient pistol. It seems I've seen an image of
this man before but have no clue where. Possibly he is a Mogul Emperor of India such
as Akbar who ruled in the late 1500's. Length 6" x 2 1/2"w. Condition excellent having
scattered age cracks that are all sound. Excellent age patina. Workmanship of very high
quality. Would be an interesting project to identify this person and certainly should be
possible as it is almost certain the image was copied from some book. A very good, 19th
century, scrimshaw tooth.
