*67. 19TH CENTURY SCRIMSHAW TOYS made in the form of common
tools. Three in all consisting of a 6" long shovel all made from whalebone
with a nicely shaped handle and thin panbone spade. Second piece a 4 3/4"
long whalebone axe with properly shaped handle and head. The third
being a 2 1/2" long carpenter's claw hammer with a whalebone handle and
a whale ivory head. All in excellent condition and with nice age color. Rare

*68. LARGE WHALE IVORY PIE
CRIMPER with three tine fork. Overall
length 8" with 2" diameter serrated wheel. Two piece handle with ebony
spacer where two sections join together. Front portion that holds wheel
nicely designed with fork and wheel arms all integral from one piece of
whale ivory. Two pierced cutouts with one resembling the profile of an
American Eagle in the classic pilot house pose. Center portion with cove
and incised carving and grip has nicely chamfered edges. Very end fitted
with hinged shackle. Condition fine having typical but sound age cracks.
Lovely age color throughout. Circa 1850.

*69. WHALE IVORY BODKIN. Upper portion nicely fashioned with deep
turned designs and incised lines inset with red sealing wax. Overall length
3 3/4". Condition excellent noting a few bits of wax that have fallen out.

*70. WHALEBONE CLOTHESPIN. Rectangular shaped with chamfer details
at top and sides. Length 4 1/4". Condition excellent. Circa 1860.

*71. PAIR OF SCRIMSHAW TEETH ON ORIGINAL WHALEBONE BASES. Superb
quality workmanship depicting Scottish Highlander with his sweetheart. One
tooth has man on one knee handing her a flower and presumably proposing.
Other has same man serenading her with a flute. Both very meticulously detailed
with regard to their costume with man in his kilt with all accessories including
head-dress. Female in lovely low cut dress and fancy Scottish beret. Length 5 1/4"
plus 3/8" thick bases that are carved with nice moulding designs around edges.
Condition excellent. Light age patina. I've had teeth by this artist before, all with
similar bases and great quality engraving. Other examples by this scrimshander
illustrated pgs 32 & 62 in Janet West's "Scrimshaw The Art Of The Whaler" and
Barbara Johnson sale IV, lot 587.

length 7". Upper 1 3/4" section nicely carved with ball finial top
and tapered octagonal section below. Condition fine. Excellent

*73. FANCY CARVED 19TH C. BONE BODKIN. Large size meas-
uring 6 1/2" long x max width 1". Two piece construction with
dark spacer where two sections join together. Upper part all
pierce carved in a variety of designs. Both sides further deco-
rated with inset black dots that I believe are baleen. Arched top with six dice dot motifs. Condition excellent
noting that five of the small dot inlays are missing. Light age color.

*74. TWO WHALEBONE CLOTHESPINS BY SAME MAKER. One
made in full size and other in child's size. Each nicely turned and
deeply incised with lines at bottom and top of opening. Larger one
measures 4 3/4" l. and smaller 2 3/4" l. Condition excellent. Nice
age color. Unusual to find matching pieces, in extremely different
